 Prabhavali is a decorative element found in many Hindu temples and shrines, typically placed behind the main deity. It is a halo or aureole of light, usually represented by a semicircular or circular frame, often decorated with intricate carvings and adorned with flowers, leaves and other symbols.


The Prabhavali is often seen as a symbol of the divine aura or halo and represents the presence of the god or goddess. It is also seen as a symbol of the light of knowledge and wisdom.


In some temples, the Prabhavali is also used to depict the different forms of the deity. For example, in some temples of Lord Vishnu, the Prabhavali depicts the different avatars of Lord Vishnu.


Prabhavali is a popular architectural element in South India, particularly in the states of Tamil Nadu and KarnATAKA, where it is used extensively in the decoration of temple towers (gopurams) and shrines.
