Product Description

Kamdhenu  is a divine bovine-goddess described in Hinduism as Gou Mata, the mother of all cows. She is a miraculous "cow of plenty" who provides her owner whatever he desires and is often portrayed as the mother of other cattle. In iconography, she is generally depicted as a white cow with a female head and breasts, the wings of a bird, and the tail of a peafowl or as a white cow containing various deities within her body. All cows are venerated in Hinduism as the earthly embodiment of the Kamadhenu. As such, Kamadhenu is not worshipped independently as a goddess, and temples are not dedicated to her honor alone; rather, she is honored by the veneration of cows in general throughout the observant Hindu population.

  1. Surabhi: This is one of the most common names for Kamadhenu and is widely used in Hindu scriptures. Surabhi means "fragrant" or "divine fragrance."

  2. Kamadhenu: This is the primary name for the divine cow and is derived from two Sanskrit words, "Kama," meaning "desire," and "Dhenu," meaning "cow." Thus, Kamadhenu is often referred to as the "cow of plenty" or the "cow of wishes."

  3. Patti: In Tamil Nadu, Kamadhenu is sometimes referred to as "Patti," which means "cow" in Tamil.

  4. Kapila: Kamadhenu is also known as Kapila in some regions. This name is derived from the Sanskrit word "Kapila," which means "reddish-brown" or "tan," describing the color of the divine cow.

  5. Shaval: In Maharashtra, Kamadhenu may be known as "Shaval," which means "white" in Marathi, referring to the color of the cow.

  6. Surai: In some parts of India, Kamadhenu is referred to as "Surai," which is similar to the name Surabhi and signifies its divine nature.

  7. Nandini: Another name for Kamadhenu is Nandini, which means "delighter" or "giver of joy." This name highlights the cow's ability to bring joy and abundance to those who possess her.
