Vintage Brass Vilakku Oil Lamp
A traditional brass Vilakku oil lamp with a tall, elegant stem, a broad circular base and a beautifully shaped oil reservoir topped with a decorative finial. Its original patina and aged brass surface lend it the character and warmth of a vintage collectible.
(H × W): 18 × 6.25 inches
This vintage brass Vilakku is a beautiful example of traditional Indian metalware, combining a graceful silhouette with understated ornamental details. Its tall, slender stem rises from a broad, circular base, with turned sections adding rhythm and definition to the design. At the top, a shallow oil reservoir with an extended rim is crowned by an ornate finial that gives the lamp its distinctive profile.
The lamp retains its original brass patina, with natural variations in tone and surface marks that reflect its age and history. Rather than a freshly polished, uniform shine, the muted golden finish has a mellow, time-worn appeal. These natural imperfections add depth and character, making the piece especially attractive to collectors who appreciate vintage objects in their original condition.
Traditionally, Vilakku lamps have held an important place in Indian homes and places of worship. Lit during prayers, festivals and auspicious occasions, the oil lamp symbolises light, knowledge and the dispelling of darkness. Beyond its ritual significance, its sculptural form makes it a striking decorative object.
Display it on a console, sideboard, altar or in a curated collection of traditional Indian artefacts. Whether styled on its own or alongside carved wood, antique brassware and other collected objects, this vintage Vilakku brings a sense of heritage and quiet elegance to an interior
