Product Description
This distinctive handcrafted brass Theyyam breastplate is inspired by the traditional chest ornaments worn as part of the elaborate costumes of Theyyam performers in Kerala. The piece captures the dramatic, ornamental character of this celebrated ritual art tradition.
Crafted in brass, the breastplate features a distinctive symmetrical form with two raised breast motifs, surrounded by finely engraved borders and flowing traditional patterns. The upper section is embellished with detailed ornamentation and crowned by two cobra-shaped finials, adding a striking symbolic element to the design.
The surface is richly decorated with delicate line engraving, beaded borders and traditional motifs. The darker antique patina, combined with highlights across the raised brass detailing, gives the piece a naturally aged and characterful appearance.
The Naga or serpent-inspired elements add to the traditional visual character of the ornament, while the overall form reflects the elaborate jewellery and body adornments associated with Theyyam costumes.
Presented on a black display stand, this brass breastplate can be showcased as a tabletop collectible or decorative art object. It makes a distinctive addition to interiors featuring Kerala heritage art, traditional Indian textiles, tribal-inspired décor or curated collections of Indian handicrafts.
This is an especially unusual piece for collectors of Theyyam art, Kerala heritage and traditional Indian brass craftsmanship.
As the product is thoroughly handcrafted by artisans, slight variations in colour, texture, engraving, moulding and finish are natural and contribute to its unique character.
Ensure the lasting beauty of this idol with simple care – gentle cleaning with a soft, dry cloth is recommended to preserve its divine radiance.
