Goddess Padmavati, also known as Alamelu Mangamma or Alamelu Thayar, holds a significant place in Hindu mythology, particularly in the South Indian tradition, where she is venerated as the consort of Lord Venkateswara (Balaji)

Goddess Padmavati is believed to be an incarnation of Mahalakshmi, the goddess of wealth, fortune, and prosperity. The story of her divine marriage with Lord Venkateswara is a popular legend in Hinduism, particularly in the Tirupati region of Andhra Pradesh, India.

Legend has it that Padmavati was the daughter of Akasha Raja, the ruler of the celestial kingdom of Akasha. One day, while she was playing with her friends, the sage Narada approached her and extolled the virtues of Lord Vishnu, especially Lord Venkateswara. Intrigued by Narada's tales, Padmavati developed a deep devotion to Lord Venkateswara and yearned to marry him.

Meanwhile, Lord Venkateswara, the presiding deity of the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, expressed his desire to marry Padmavati during his stay on Earth. He assumed the form of a prince and met Padmavati in the forest. Impressed by her beauty and devotion, Lord Venkateswara proposed to Padmavati, and she accepted his proposal.

Their divine marriage, known as the Kalyanotsavam, is celebrated with great pomp and grandeur in Tirupati and other regions where Lord Venkateswara is worshipped. It is believed that those who participate in or witness the Kalyanotsavam are blessed with wealth, prosperity, and marital bliss.

  1. Padmavati: This is the primary name by which the goddess is known, derived from the Sanskrit words "Padma," meaning lotus, and "Vati," meaning one who possesses. Padmavati thus signifies "she who possesses lotus-like qualities."

  2. Alamelu Mangamma: This is another name for Goddess Padmavati, widely used in the Tamil tradition. It combines "Alamelu," a Tamil name meaning "she who resides on a lotus," with "Mangamma," a term of endearment often used to refer to goddesses.

  3. Alamelu Thayar: This is a Tamil name for Goddess Padmavati, particularly used in the context of her association with Lord Venkateswara. "Alamelu" refers to her lotus-like beauty, while "Thayar" means consort, emphasizing her role as the divine consort of Lord Venkateswara.

Devotees seek her blessings for wealth, prosperity, and marital happiness
