The Varaha Avatar is one of the ten principal avatars (incarnations) of Lord Vishnu in Hindu mythology. The story of Varaha is primarily associated with the rescue of the Earth (personified as the goddess Bhudevi) from the demon Hiranyaksha. 

Hiranyaksha, a powerful demon and brother of another demon named Hiranyakashipu, gained immense strength through severe penance. With his newfound power, he began to wreak havoc on the world, challenging both gods and humans.

Hiranyaksha performed intense austerities and pleased the god Brahma, who granted him a boon. Empowered by this boon, Hiranyaksha submerged the Earth into the cosmic ocean (pralaya), plunging it into darkness and chaos.

In response to the Earth's distress, Lord Vishnu took the form of Varaha, a boar, to rescue her and restore cosmic order. Vishnu's boar incarnation is often described as having the body of a boar and the head of a human.

Varaha descended into the cosmic ocean and located the Earth, which was submerged in the water. Hiranyaksha, noticing Varaha's interference, confronted the divine boar. A fierce battle ensued between Varaha and the demon

Varaha fought valiantly against Hiranyaksha, eventually defeating and killing the demon. Afterward, Varaha used his tusks to lift the Earth from the cosmic ocean and placed her back in her orbit.

• Varaha's descent symbolizes the divine intervention to restore cosmic balance and protect dharma (righteousness) when it is threatened by demonic forces.
